Postgraduate Program

The teaching medium for postgraduate programs of the university is English. Postgraduate studies are conducted in the semester system. First semester starts in November and ends in March. Second semester begins in May and ends in September. All postgraduate programs offered in YAU are on

  1. Agronomy
  2. Plant Breeding, Physiology and Ecology
  3. Soil and Water Science
  4. Plant Pathology
  5. Entomology
  6. Horticulture and Agricultural Biotechnology
  7. Agricultural Economics

(a) Master Degree Program

Courses for Master of Science in Agriculture (M.Agr.Sc.) was started in 1978 with the introduction of semester credit system. The required period for the graduation of M.Agr.Sc. degree is a minimum and maximum residence of four to ten semesters respectively, and normally 50 credit hours (34 credits for course work and 16 credits for thesis) may be required. A student is required to submit a thesis as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master’s degree. Only students who have completed the graduation requirements are conferred a M.Agr.Sc. degree.

(b) Doctoral Degree Program

Ph.D. degree program was started in the year 2001. The residential requirement for earning a Ph.D. degree is five years. A total 50 credit hours (9 credits for course work and 41 credits for thesis) may be required for the Ph.D. degree.

(c) Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Postgraduate Diploma

In 1986, a study program for graduates who were not qualified to pursue Master Degree in the university was initiated so that they would get another degree after his or her first degree in YAU and such students are offered Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degree. The university extended the learning opportunities for its graduate, again in 2006, as Postgrad Diploma Course which is offering (Grad. Dip.Agr.Sc.).
